Rural Pokemon Go player amazed by game’s activity

Posted on May 26, 2023May 26, 2023 by CharlotteM

In a recent development, a rural Pokemon Go player had an eye-opening experience when they visited Las Vegas during a Community Day event and witnessed the game’s astonishing level of activity in more populated areas. This encounter served as a stark contrast to their usual gameplay experience, which is often limited due to being situated outside metropolitan cities.

Expressing their astonishment, the player took to the Pokemon Go subreddit to share their perspective, accompanied by two screenshots showcasing distinct gameplay scenarios. The first screenshot depicted a vibrant map filled with numerous Raids, Gyms, and PokeStops, while the second screenshot portrayed a desolate rural landscape with only a solitary wild Pancham spawn. The player lamented their observation, stating, “Rural Pokemon Go is just depressing,” emphasizing the stark disparity in gameplay opportunities between urban and rural settings.

The Reddit post sparked a discussion among other rural Pokemon Go enthusiasts who could relate to the challenges they face. Several users shared their own experiences of traveling to more populated areas and experiencing the stark contrast in game activity. One commenter recounted their visit to Tokyo, Japan during Slowpoke Community Day, where they were overwhelmed by the sheer volume of gameplay features at the bustling Tokyo Pokemon Center. However, upon returning to their rural location, they found the game to be lifeless and devoid of the dynamic elements they had previously enjoyed.

As the discussion continued, some users suggested that rural players could submit their own PokeStops for approval, a process available to players at level 37. However, rural players countered this suggestion, highlighting the difficulties they face in leveling up and the frequent rejection of their PokeStop nominations, further exacerbating the imbalance between urban and rural gameplay experiences.

Adding to the concerns of rural players, Niantic, the company behind Pokemon Go, recently disclosed that they have no plans to adjust the changes made to Remote Raid Passes, which have contributed to the challenges faced by rural players. This statement indicates that rural enthusiasts may continue to encounter significant obstacles and limitations in their Pokemon Go journey, raising concerns about the game’s inclusivity and the potential for an ongoing disparity in gameplay opportunities between different geographical locations.
