One Piece creator updates on Netflix’s live-action series

Posted on May 8, 2023May 7, 2023 by CharlotteM

Eiichiro Oda, the creator of the popular anime and manga series One Piece, has recently provided an update on the highly anticipated live-action adaptation being produced by Netflix. In a letter posted on Netflix’s official Instagram account, Oda revealed that he has been working with Tomorrow Studios and Netflix for a considerable amount of time now. While they both understand the characters and the story, the two sides have different cultural backgrounds, codes, skill sets, and aims when it comes to entertainment, which sometimes causes frustration. Oda even admitted to questioning whether a foreign production of One Piece was possible.

However, Oda went on to say that despite these challenges, they have been hard at work and are now working in sync, with each entity involved contributing their best efforts. Oda believes that this might be the last chance to bring One Piece to the entire world, considering his expected lifespan. He expressed excitement about the project and revealed that they are in the final process of finishing all eight episodes, with the show “setting sail very soon.”

One Piece is a popular anime and manga series that follows the adventures of a young pirate named Monkey D. Luffy and his crew, the Straw Hat Pirates. They sail the seas in search of a fabled treasure called the One Piece, which will allow Luffy to become the King of the Pirates. The series has been adapted into a hugely popular series of video games focused on the Straw Hat Pirates.

In addition to Oda’s update, Netflix also provided some details on the cast of the live-action adaptation. The cast includes Langley Kirkwood as Captain Morgan, Celeste Loots as Kaya, Alexander Maniatis as Klahadore, Craig Fairbrass as Chef Zeff, Steven Ward as Mihawk, and Cioma Umeala as Nojiko. The show’s main cast includes Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, Taz Skylar as Sanji, and Emily Rudd as Nami.

While no release date has been confirmed yet for One Piece, fans of the series are eagerly anticipating its arrival. The live-action adaptation has been a long time in the making, and many are hoping that it will do justice to the beloved series. As always, we’ll keep you updated on any new developments.
