Jujutsu Kaisen suggests Itadori holds the key to rescuing Megumi from Sukuna’s grasp

Posted on May 25, 2023May 24, 2023 by CharlotteM

Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 222 introduces a potential solution for Itadori to rescue Megumi from Sukuna’s control, opening up an opportunity for Gojo to defeat the King of Curses.

In Chapter 222, Itadori undergoes intense training with Kusakabe, a teacher at Jujutsu High. During their practice, Itadori’s behavior becomes completely out of character, using a speech pattern that doesn’t align with his respectful and polite nature. Conversely, Kusakabe responds in a way that is typical of Itadori, using his catchphrase “Osu.” This peculiar interaction suggests that Itadori and Kusakabe have swapped bodies, and Itadori has successfully developed the ability to exchange souls.

This newfound ability to manipulate souls offers a potential solution to save Megumi. Itadori could potentially separate Megumi’s soul from Sukuna’s control, allowing Gojo to engage in a decisive battle against the curse without harming Megumi. Itadori’s training and dedication to perfecting soul-swapping indicate that he may be preparing for the final showdown against Sukuna, with the intention of using his power to save Megumi.

The concept of manipulating souls is not foreign to the world of Jujutsu Kaisen. Examples such as the Star Plasma Vessels merging souls with Master Tengen, Mahito’s cursed technique centered around manipulating souls, and Mai Zenin imbuing her soul into a weapon demonstrate that soul manipulation is a recurring theme in the series. Itadori’s previous experience as a vessel for Sukuna’s soul and his ability to perceive souls further support his potential mastery of soul-swapping.

Drawing from past information about the Zenin twins, specifically Mai Zenin’s use of her Construction cursed technique to imbue her soul into a Split Soul Katana, it is plausible that Itadori may employ a similar approach. He could place his own soul into an object, allowing Megumi to take over his body and saving both of them.

Considering the accumulation of evidence, including Yuki’s research on souls, Itadori’s training, his interaction with Kusakabe, and the thematic elements within Jujutsu Kaisen, it is highly likely that Itadori will successfully remove Megumi’s soul from Sukuna, enabling Gojo to eliminate the curse king more easily. This development would align with the recurring motif of souls in the series and the ongoing narrative of Itadori and Megumi supporting and rescuing each other.
