Boruto villain shows Otsutsuki not as intimidating as believed

Posted on May 4, 2023May 4, 2023 by CharlotteM

Otsutsuki Clan in the Naruto and Boruto sagas as the most powerful and terrifying villains. However, despite their perceived dominance and God-level abilities, the reality suggests that they are not as strong as they appear.

Throughout the series, the Otsutsuki Clan presents themselves as a group with a quest to dominate the universe, sending members to Earth to cultivate the God Tree and harvest the Chakra Fruit. Kaguya, one of their members, betrayed her underling Isshiki Otsutsuki by eating the Chakra Fruit and producing two children who ultimately spread the chakra force throughout humanity. Kaguya’s power and influence gave credence to the strength of the Otsutsuki Clan. Even in supposed suspended animation, Kaguya proved to be behind the most serious situations that Naruto and Konoha Village ever encountered. Later in Boruto, Amado talked of an Otsutsuki God named Shibai who was so much more powerful than Kaguya that he could change the minds of humans at will.

However, despite their reputation, the Otsutsuki Clan has suffered more serious defeats than any other major antagonist group in both Naruto and Boruto. The outcome of the confrontations involving the Otsutsuki Clan supports the argument that they are not as powerful as they claim to be. For example, Isshiki Otsutsuki, the poster boy of Otsutsuki incompetence, was defeated by his subordinate Kaguya and forced to rely on Jigen’s weak body.

While his “better half” Kaguya went on to literally change the course of the history of the world, Isshiki was forced to grovel on the sidelines for generations. This led to the founding of the immensely powerful Kara; however, he was nevertheless outmaneuvered by Amado, the human he revealed the secrets of the Otsutsuki to, and was ultimately defeated by Kawaki, a child who performed one of the best bait-and-switch ops in all of manga history. Consequently, this once all-powerful Otsutsuki Clan member is forced to rely on Code, a subordinate he himself once cast away as worthless to carry on his legacy.

Kaguya, another prominent member of the Otsutsuki Clan, was bested by her sons and later by more children with Team 7. Momoshiki, who was originally sent to check up on Isshiki and Kaguya, was defeated by Naruto, Sasuke, and Boruto and now only survives as an element of Boruto’s conscience. All of these defeats indicate that despite their well-documented abilities and over-the-top influence, the Otsutsuki Clan is not as powerful nor as lethal as they claim to be.

In conclusion, while the Otsutsuki Clan presents itself as an unstoppable force with god-like powers, their track record suggests otherwise. While they have the potential to be unstoppable, they have yet to live up to the hype in either Boruto or Naruto.
