Hamilton reveals why he’s losing time behind Verstappen

Posted on November 6, 2021 by CharlotteM

The distance between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen during practice for the Mexican Grand Prix was completely due to “lack of downforce,” according to Hamilton.

The big gap between Lewis Hamilton and title rival Max Verstappen during Friday practice for the Mexican Grand Prix, according to Hamilton, was due to a fundamental lack of downforce.

Mercedes took a 1-2 in first practice at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, but Verstappen and Red Bull raced ahead in FP2, finishing four tenths ahead of Valtteri Bottas and tenths ahead of Hamilton.

In Sector 1, where straight-line speed is crucial, Hamilton was a match for Verstappen, but he was much slower in the more difficult Sectors 2 and 3.
