Posted on May 26, 2023May 25, 2023 by CharlotteM

Gintama: Ato no Matsuri event, held on March 19, 2023, at the Ryogoku Kokugikan National Sumo Arena, set the internet abuzz with excitement as fans eagerly awaited the celebration of Gintama’s post-anime era. The event garnered significant attention, not only for its live audience but also for its international fanbase, as it was livestreamed to allow fans from all around the world to participate in the festivities.

One of the major highlights of the event was the announcement of a brand new Gintama spin-off series, based on the popular light novel series titled “3-nen Z-gumi Ginpachi-sensei.” This exciting news sent fans into a frenzy of anticipation, eagerly speculating about the format, cast, and production studio involved in the upcoming spin-off. While details about the series remained scarce at the time, the sheer prospect of seeing beloved Gintama characters in a classroom setting, with Gintoki assuming the role of their teacher, was enough to ignite excitement among fans.

During the Gintama: Ato no Matsuri event, international fans were not left out, thanks to the livestream provided by ABEMA PPV Online Live, a Japanese live TV streaming website. This allowed fans from around the world to experience the event firsthand, witnessing the electrifying atmosphere and reveling in the announcements and surprises alongside the live audience.

As the livestream unfolded, more captivating visuals and photographs were shared, offering glimpses into the event’s festivities. Among the highlights were the main cast members playfully engaging with other well-known shonen series, such as Jujutsu Kaisen and Spy x Family. These interactions added an extra layer of excitement for fans, who delighted in witnessing their favorite Gintama characters in amusing crossovers with other popular franchises.

The upcoming spin-off series, Gintama: Class 3-Z, Ginpachi Sensei, drew inspiration from the parody series that was featured twice in Akamaru Jump. In this parody, Ginpachi-sensei humorously takes on the role of Gintoki, entering the classroom with candy instead of a cigarette, donning spectacles and a white coat. The treat he offers is a peropero candy, and in a comical twist, Ginpachi explains that the smoke results from rapidly licking the sweet.

The announcement of the new Gintama spin-off and the amusing insights into its premise have left fans eagerly anticipating what lies ahead. They eagerly await the opportunity to once again immerse themselves in the playfulness, lighthearted comedy, and unique storytelling that the Gintama franchise has consistently delivered.

For those unfamiliar with Gintama, the anime and manga series is set in an alternate-history late-Edo period, where Earth is invaded by aliens known as the “Amanto.” In the face of the invaders’ might, the shogun submits, leaving the samurai of Edo Japan to valiantly defend their homeland. However, an unfair agreement is reached, forbidding the public use of swords and allowing the nation’s invasion to proceed unchecked.

In this tumultuous setting, we meet the eccentric and unconventional samurai Gintoki Sakata, who becomes a freelancer, taking on various odd jobs to make a living. Alongside him are Shinpachi Shimura, a young man inspired by Gintoki’s ideals, and Kagura, a young extraterrestrial woman possessing extraordinary strength. Together, they form the “Yorozuya” or the “Anything Store,” taking on tasks and challenges while navigating encounters with the powerful Shinsengumi police force and encountering former allies from the Amanto invasion.

The storytelling in Gintama primarily follows an episodic structure,
