Disney/Pixar has announced that tickets are now available for the re-release of their 2004 animated classic, ‘The Incredibles,’ in theaters. This special screening is part of Disney’s 100th-anniversary celebration. The film, which follows the adventures of the superpowered Parr family, will be shown in select U.S. theaters from September 1 to September 14. Fans of this animated superhero movie can purchase tickets via Fandango.
Directed by Brad Bird, ‘The Incredibles’ is set in a retro-futuristic 1960s world where the Parr family conceals their extraordinary abilities due to government regulations. However, when Mr. Incredible, voiced by Craig T. Nelson, resumes his crime-fighting career in secret, the rest of the family gets drawn into the action to thwart the vengeful Syndrome, portrayed by Jason Lee. This movie was a major box office hit, grossing over $630 million globally, and it later spawned a sequel, ‘Incredibles 2,’ in 2018.
Disney’s 100th-anniversary festivities began at the start of the year, even though the official anniversary date isn’t until October 16, 2023. ‘The Incredibles’ is the fifth classic Disney film to be re-released as part of this celebration, following ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl,’ ‘Toy Story,’ ‘Frozen,’ and ‘Beauty and the Beast.’ After ‘The Incredibles’ special two-week engagement, Disney will also re-release ‘Coco’ (September 15-28), ‘The Lion King’ (September 29-October 12), and ‘Moana’ (October 13-26).
In addition to these screenings, Disney is commemorating its centennial with the release of 4K SteelBook editions of some of its most beloved films, including classics like ‘Cinderella’ and Marvel hits like ‘Iron Man.’
As for the possibility of ‘Incredibles 3,’ Pixar has not officially announced the film as of now. However, the renowned animation studio is working on sequels to other popular movies such as ‘Toy Story’ and ‘Inside Out.’ ‘Inside Out 2’ was confirmed during the 2022 D23 Expo, with plans to focus on Riley’s teenage years and introduce new emotions. ‘Toy Story 5’ was also mentioned as being in development by Disney CEO Bob Iger in February 2023, along with sequels to Disney Animation titles ‘Zootopia’ and ‘Frozen.’
‘The Incredibles’ will make its return to theaters on September 1, running for a two-week engagement.
