During a momentous encounter on a judging panel, the esteemed mangaka behind One Piece was captivated by the exceptional talent and presence of Jujutsu Kaisen’s creator, leading to high praise and admiration.

Eiichiro Oda, the creative genius behind the wildly popular One Piece series, recently shared his thoughts on the elusive and enigmatic mangaka of Jujutsu Kaisen, Gege Akutami. Their paths crossed at the Tezuka prize judging committee, where Oda had the opportunity to engage in a meaningful conversation with Akutami-san for the first time. Overflowing with enthusiasm, Oda couldn’t help but express his admiration, exclaiming, “What a reliable person! A person of character.” The prestigious event also brought together other influential mangaka, including Akira Toriyama of Dragon Ball fame, Kazue Kato of Blue Exorcist, and Kōhei Horikoshi of My Hero Academia.

The enigmatic creator behind Jujutsu Kaisen, Akutami, has maintained an air of mystery surrounding their identity, refraining from divulging personal details such as pronouns, real name, or appearance. Despite their enigmatic persona, Akutami has displayed a delightful sense of humor when discussing themselves. On a brief hiatus due to health reasons, Akutami humorously mentioned lying prone for two and a half days, reassuring fans that it was not due to any serious illness. In another lighthearted instance, they playfully attributed their lethargy and increasing number of white hairs to the side effects of paying taxes. Prior to Jujutsu Kaisen’s rise to fame, Akutami published a four-chapter series titled Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School, which later served as a prequel to their highly acclaimed work.
