During the MAPPA Stage 2023 event, exciting details about the highly anticipated second season of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime were unveiled. The event showcased a new promotional video and character visuals that gave fans a glimpse of what to expect. One highlight of the video was the preview of the opening theme song titled “Ao no Sumika” (Blue House), performed by Tatsuya Kitani.
Fans can mark their calendars as the second season is set to premiere on July 6, airing on MBS and TBS, along with 28 affiliated channels. Shōta Goshozono, known for directing episodes 8 and 17 of Jujutsu Kaisen, will be taking the reins as the anime’s director, replacing Sunghoo Park. The new season will introduce additional cast members, including Anna Nagase as Riko Amanai and Takehito Koyasu as Toji Fushiguro. Excitement is building as fans eagerly anticipate the continuation of the captivating storyline.
The second season of Jujutsu Kaisen will span two cours (quarters of a year), offering viewers a continuous half-year run filled with intense and thrilling episodes. The anime will adapt two significant story arcs from Gege Akutami’s original manga: the “Kaigyoku/Gyokusetsu” arc and the “Shibuya Incident” arc. This promises to bring more exhilarating battles, intriguing mysteries, and character development to captivate audiences once again.
The success of the first season, which premiered in October 2020 with 24 episodes, has garnered a dedicated fan base worldwide. Crunchyroll streamed the anime outside of Asia, allowing international fans to follow the series as it aired in Japan. Additionally, Crunchyroll has provided dubbed versions of the anime in various languages, including English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and German.
Jujutsu Kaisen’s popularity extended beyond the anime series, as it spawned the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 anime film. Released in Japan in December 2021, the film received great acclaim. It was later made available with English subtitles and an English dub in the U.S. and Canada in March 2022, further expanding the franchise’s reach.
The manga, created by Gege Akutami, debuted in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in March 2018. It has captivated readers with its dark and supernatural themes, intricate plotlines, and well-developed characters. Viz Media is responsible for publishing the manga digitally and in print, while Shueisha distributes the digital version through its MANGA Plus service.
The Jujutsu Kaisen 0 film is a notable addition to the franchise, as it serves as a prequel story to the main manga. Titled Jujutsu Kaisen 0: Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School, the film explores events leading up to the main series, offering fans deeper insights into the rich lore of Jujutsu Kaisen.
With the second season approaching, fans are eagerly anticipating the continuation of the gripping story, intense battles, and the further exploration of the Jujutsu Kaisen universe.
