My Hero Academia creator breaks fourth wall with new Toga art

Posted on June 7, 2023June 7, 2023 by CharlotteM

My Hero Academia fans have always had their eyes on Toga, recognizing her as one of the standout characters since the beginning. As the deranged villainess, Toga has undergone significant development throughout the series, making her an unforgettable presence as My Hero Academia enters its final act. Creator Kohei Horikoshi has consistently dedicated attention to Toga’s story, and now he has taken things a step further by breaking the fourth wall with some new artwork featuring the captivating character.

In celebration of the release of a new manga volume, Horikoshi treated fans to a delightful sketch on Twitter. The artwork showcases Toga holding the freshly minted My Hero Academia volume, with the character herself gracing the cover of the book. Horikoshi’s accompanying tweet shared the details of the release, expressing a slight mix-up in the release date and describing the volume’s features, such as its pink and purple cover and the inclusion of postcards as extras.

The adorable artwork depicts Toga in her signature bloody outfit, clutching My Hero Academia volume 38 against her face. With her eyes half-closed, Toga exudes her usual air of chilling intensity. The imagery is accentuated by the presence of serrated knives and blood, representing Toga’s macabre interests. Remarkably, despite the gore surrounding her, Toga manages to keep the new manga volume in pristine condition.

This self-referential sketch not only elicited laughter from fans but also showcased the immense talent of Horikoshi. The creator effortlessly breaks the fourth wall in clever ways, adding an extra layer of enjoyment to the series. While these instances are not frequent in the manga, My Hero Academia has had its share of such moments. The character Twice, based on Deadpool, often indulged in these nods, and now Toga carries on his legacy as the manga approaches its climactic finale. This My Hero Academia artwork serves as a testament to the seamless transition of the series’ narrative.

For fans who may be behind on the My Hero Academia manga, now is the perfect time to catch up as the story delves into its thrilling climax. The English publication is handled by Viz Media, making it easily accessible through the Shonen Jump app. As for the anime adaptation, the sixth season recently concluded, leaving fans eagerly awaiting the arrival of season seven. In the meantime, current episodes can be enjoyed on Crunchyroll and Hulu, allowing fans to immerse themselves in the ongoing adventures of My Hero Academia’s vibrant world.
