After a lengthy seven-year wait, Dreamworks is finally approaching the release of “Kung Fu Panda 4.” This highly anticipated animated film, featuring the return of Jack Black as the beloved Po, is scheduled for a 2024 debut. Although no official trailer or first look has been released yet, Dreamworks seems to have provided a glimpse of a significant new character set to appear in the movie – the next Dragon Warrior.
A fan account on X, formerly Twitter, called @TheCartoonBase, shared a promotional image created by Dreamworks for the International Rome Film Fest in September and October. This promotional artwork showcases a collage of iconic Dreamworks characters, including Shrek, Captain Underpants, and Alex the Lion. However, eagle-eyed fans noticed an unfamiliar character standing next to Po in the image. This mysterious figure is a cloaked fox, leading fans to speculate that this character is likely Zhen.
According to early plot details from “Kung Fu Panda 4,” Zhen matches the description of a new character who Po will mentor throughout the film, grooming her to become the next Dragon Warrior.
Po’s role as the mentor to Zhen is a central theme in Kung Fu Panda 4. As Jack Black revealed during CinemaCon 2023, the film takes place sometime after the events of “Kung Fu Panda 3.” In this installment, Po is set to take on a new responsibility as the leader of the Valley of Peace. However, before he can fully embrace this role, he must locate and train a successor to assume the mantle of the Dragon Warrior. Po’s search leads him to Zhen, a cunning female fox thief with the potential to fill the coveted role. Despite their initial differences, they must join forces to confront a formidable new adversary known as the Chameleon.
