Kumail Nanjiani and Elizabeth Banks take the lead in Illumination’s latest film.
The movie ‘Migration’ has surpassed the $150 million mark at the global box office, making it a profitable venture considering its reported $72 million budget. While it may not match the blockbuster success of some of Illumination’s other projects, ‘Migration’ is hitting its milestones during its theatrical run.
Of the $150 million earned globally, $77 million comes from the domestic market, and $73 million from international territories. The film performed well in various countries during its recent premiere weekend, outperforming ‘Sing 2’ in Brazil, Poland, Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay. ‘Migration’ has also seen success in Germany, France, Australia, the Netherlands, Mexico, and Spain, with its international total continuing to rise. The winter break contributed to a boost in box office revenue as families flocked to theaters together.
The storyline follows a family of mallards led by Mack (Kumail Nanjiani) and Pam (Elizabeth Banks) as they venture from their pond to find a new life in Jamaica but end up lost in New York City. The film emphasizes the importance of family love and has resonated well with audiences.
In 2023, Illumination Entertainment enjoyed success with ‘Migration’ following the impressive performance of ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie,’ which earned over $1 billion in April. While ‘Migration’ may not reach the same heights, it is on track to be a success in its own right. Illumination continues to thrive, with plans to expand the ‘Despicable Me’ franchise with a new sequel in the summer.
