Conspiracy theorists have a penchant for concocting elaborate narratives involving The Walt Disney Company, and their theories seem to grow more outlandish with each passing day. In their relentless quest to unveil alleged dark secrets, they have accused Walt Disney World Resort of orchestrating Nazi protests, publicly targeted high-ranking Disney executives with accusations of pedophilia, and even proposed the idea that Disney possesses mind-controlling abilities. However, their latest conspiracy theory reaches back decades, all the way to the beloved Disney/Pixar film, Monsters, Inc. (2001).
This particular theory gained traction when TikToker Jess, who goes by the handle @jess4truth, shared a video in which she urged Christians to scrutinize the film’s underlying message. Jess boldly accused The Walt Disney Company of crafting a thinly-veiled narrative about Adrenachrome, a chemical that many followers of the QAnon conspiracy theory believe “elites” harvest from children.
In her video, Jess contended that the movie’s plot is centered around the activities of the monsters who work at Monsters, Incorporated. These creatures enter the human world through doors at night to scare children, with the objective of collecting their screams, which are then used to power the city of Monstropolis. The monsters even employ ranking systems to determine who can extract the most screams from the children they encounter.
Jess went further, suggesting that the power containers used in the film resemble blood, even though they are brightly colored and bear no resemblance to the vials or medical blood bags typically associated with the harvesting of Adrenachrome. She claimed that the Adrenachrome extraction process employed by the so-called elite involves torturing children and instilling fear in them to spike their adrenaline levels, ultimately leading to the collection of this chemical.
It is crucial to note, however, that this theory has no factual basis. Setting aside the Adrenachrome myth, the actual message of Monsters, Inc. is one of coexistence between humans and monsters, highlighting how both societies can benefit from collaboration. In the film, the monsters eventually switch to comedy routines, discovering that laughter is a more potent source of power than screams.
Monsters, Inc. was a significant success for Pixar, following the trailblazing Toy Story (1995) as one of the studio’s early triumphs. However, unlike its predecessor, James P. Sullivan (voiced by John Goodman) and Mike Wazowski (voiced by Billy Crystal) did not return to the big screen until the release of the 2013 prequel, Monsters University. The original cast also reunited for a Disney+ series, Monsters at Work, eight years later, further solidifying the enduring popularity of these beloved characters. The official Disney movie description for Monsters, Inc. reads, “Lovable Sulley and his wisecracking sidekick Mike Wazowski are the top scare team at Monsters, Inc., the scream-processing factory in Monstropolis. When a little girl named Boo wanders into their world, it’s the monsters who are scared silly, and it’s up to Sulley and Mike to keep her out of sight and get her back home.
