Lewis Hamilton has reacted to Max Verstappen’s assertions that he was to fault for their crash at the Italian Grand Prix.
Both drivers were forced to withdraw from Monza as a result of the collision, with Verstappen receiving a three-place penalty in the Russian Grand Prix.
“I’m a little bit stiff, and sore on my neck because it landed on my neck but I’ll be okay,” Hamilton said.
Hamilton stated that he tried all in his power to avoid the incident.
“Just from what I remember, I was racing as hard as I could, just got past Lando and got into the lead,” he said.
“I pitted. I came out, saw Daniel go past, made sure I left a car’s width. Went into turn one ahead, and ahead in turn two then all of a sudden he was on top of me.”
Verstappen knew exactly what he was doing going into the bend, according to the British driver, and he refused to back down, which resulted to the incident.
“He absolutely should’ve done what I did at turn four on lap,” Hamilton claimed.
“I went around the outside, I gave way. That’s racing.
“He knew what was going to happen. He knew he was going over the kerbs. We’ll go to the stewards and we’ll see.”
