As of now, it remains uncertain whether the original Sanderson sisters will make a comeback, so it might be wise to gather our magical forces.
While we eagerly await the revelation of which enchanting trio will lead “Hocus Pocus 3,” we can celebrate the return of director Anne Fletcher, who previously helmed “Hocus Pocus 2,” as she takes the reins to bring the trilogy to a close.
The bewitching spell of the Sanderson sisters was still palpable during Halloween 2022, and it comes as no surprise that Disney has decided to continue the beloved franchise. According to The Wrap, Fletcher has officially signed on to direct the sequel, following Disney producer Sean Bailey’s recent announcement of its development. The release of the 2021 Disney+ sequel to the 1993 cult classic, “Hocus Pocus,” reignited the fervor surrounding the Bette Midler-led franchise and brought back Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy to reprise their roles as the mischievous trio of supernatural siblings. Additionally, sequel writer Jen D’Angelo will return to craft the new script.
As of now, casting details have not been disclosed. In “Hocus Pocus 2,” a trio of young witches portrayed by Whitney Peak, Belissa Escobedo, and Lilia Buckingham was introduced, hinting at the possibility of them carrying the franchise forward. However, it’s difficult to imagine that we have seen the last of the iconic Sanderson sisters. It seems unlikely that Bette Midler would deny her witchy character, Winnie, another chance to shine. Perhaps some delightful time-travel escapades could bring the young Sanderson sisters into the modern world, especially considering their scene-stealing performances in “Hocus Pocus 2.”
The release strategy for the film remains unknown. While “Hocus Pocus 2” premiered directly on Disney+, it is possible that the third installment could pursue a different distribution approach. Much like Winnie’s mystical “booooook,” we will eagerly await further updates on the highly anticipated “Hocus Pocus 3.”
