Jujutsu Kaisen amplifies Sukuna’s powers significantly ahead of his battle with Gojo

As the highly anticipated clash between Gojo and Sukuna in Jujutsu Kaisen draws near, the series has unveiled a significant power boost for its ultimate antagonist. The manga, created by Gege Akutami, has already established Sukuna as a fearsome entity, but this upgrade takes his threat level to new heights. This development has been foreshadowed since the inception of the series and now promises an even more thrilling and intense confrontation.

In Chapter 222, translated by John Werry, the story builds up to the ultimate showdown between Gojo and Sukuna. To maximize Sukuna’s power, Uraume takes on the task of locating the remaining fingers of the King of Curses. These fingers contain fragments of Sukuna’s immense power and were the catalyst for his possession of Yuji at the manga’s outset. Uraume manages to track down all but one finger, leading Sukuna to speculate that Gojo is in possession of the missing one. However, Sukuna finds an alternative solution by consuming the mummified corpse of his original body, which Kenjaku discovered in Chapter 220.

This power boost for Sukuna may seem repulsive, but it aligns perfectly with the narrative trajectory of the series. Prior to the Shibuya Incident and Culling Game arcs, one of the central objectives was for Yuji to consume all of Sukuna’s fingers, as they wreaked havoc across Japan. Each finger granted Sukuna greater strength, making him increasingly challenging for Yuji to contain. However, with Sukuna now inhabiting Megumi’s body, each additional finger devoured makes him an even more overwhelming force that Megumi alone cannot hope to withstand. This heightens the threat Sukuna poses to Gojo, making the upcoming battle all the more formidable.

Nevertheless, even with this power boost, Sukuna may still find it difficult to defeat Gojo, given the latter’s extraordinary strength and abilities. Gojo recently returned to the Jujutsu Kaisen storyline after being unsealed from the prison realm, and from the brief clash he had with Sukuna and Kenjaku upon his return, it appears that his power remains as formidable as ever. Gojo’s Limitless ability is virtually insurmountable, and even with his heightened power, Sukuna will face an arduous task in attempting to overcome him. Thus, in order to maintain an engaging and suspenseful final fight, Sukuna requires substantial upgrades despite his existing formidable abilities.

Sukuna’s latest upgrade marks a pivotal point in Jujutsu Kaisen’s narrative, as it strives to elevate his power to a level that can rival Gojo’s. This development raises concerns for the protagonists, as it hints at the possibility of Sukuna emerging victorious in his impending battle with Gojo. Such an outcome would require the weaker heroes to step up and join forces to bring Sukuna down. Regardless of who ultimately emerges as the victor against Sukuna, his newfound upgrade solidifies his position as one of the most powerful characters in the Jujutsu Kaisen universe, amplifying the stakes and anticipation surrounding the impending clash.
