Boruto’s time skip is the complete opposite of Naruto Shippuden

Boruto, the sequel to the popular anime and manga series Naruto, is set to have its own version of Naruto Shippuden with an upcoming time skip. Fans have been eagerly anticipating this development, and many are already drawing comparisons between the two series. However, there is a significant difference between the two: the roles of the main characters from each series are reversed.

In the Naruto manga, the story is divided into two parts. The first part ends with an epic duel between Naruto and Sasuke at the Valley of the End. The second part, known as Naruto Shippuden in the anime, jumps forward two and a half years, and the story continues from there. The Boruto manga is also approaching a time skip, which was foreshadowed in a flash-forward at the beginning of the series. Although it is uncertain how many years will pass, the two main characters, Boruto and Kawaki, are depicted as young adults facing off against each other in a battle that will determine the fate of the shinobi world.

Recently, Boruto revealed the circumstances leading up to the conflict between Boruto and Kawaki. The latter, obsessed with protecting Naruto, who saved him and welcomed him as a son, has decided that the spirit of Momoshiki Otsutsuki lingering inside Boruto’s body is too much of a threat. After imprisoning Naruto and Hinata in another dimension, Kawaki goes after his sworn brother, almost killing Boruto and causing the scar on his eye seen in the flash-forward. After becoming a fugitive hunted by the entire village, Kawaki uses Eida’s incredible Otsutsuki powers to reshape reality and alter everyone’s memories, making himself Naruto’s son and Boruto the outsider wanted for killing the Hokage.

This twist in the story reverses the dynamic between the two main characters of Naruto Shippuden, Naruto and Sasuke. After the time skip, Sasuke was the outsider who abandoned Konoha and was branded a traitor, while Naruto quickly established himself as the village hero. Now, thanks to Eida’s power, Boruto is the traitor, and Kawaki, who is the actual villain of the story, is considered the hero of Konoha. This setup creates a unique and intriguing storyline that leaves fans wondering what Boruto will do during the time skip and if he can bring things back to the way they were.

The reversal of the dynamic between the main characters of Naruto Shippuden is not the only way in which Boruto sets itself apart from its predecessor. While Naruto’s story was mainly about him earning the recognition of the village through his actions, Boruto was born into privilege and reverence and then unexpectedly lost everything, with no chance of regaining it through mere effort, as his father did. Similarly, Sasuke accepted the consequences of his actions, abandoning his friends and being branded a traitor, all in pursuit of his revenge. Kawaki, on the other hand, did something much worse to Konoha but had Eida fix it for him, essentially committing a crime without facing any consequences.

These recent developments in the Boruto storyline ensure that while the upcoming time skip may have a distinct Naruto Shippuden feeling, it also feels like the exact opposite of it. This decision is a wise one for a series that has been struggling to get out of the shadow of its predecessor. Fans of the series can look forward to seeing how Boruto and Kawaki’s story unfolds in the future and how they can bring back balance to the shinobi world.
